About Us...
After breeding and showing Airedale Terriers with the ’Chalma’ prefix since 1974, our friends Karsten Kaemling and Dann Wilson of Alchemy and Milenka Cesky Terriers introduced us to the Cesky Terrier. We got our first Cesky ’Barnaby’ aka Ch. Alchemy Milenka's Baron Chalma. (Ch. Artax Andel X Milenka's Ginoch’s Kvitko) from them in 1998.
Although we had not attended dog shows for some years, we were persuaded to start exhibiting again in a few rare breed shows. The Cesky Terrier was officially recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club on January 1, 2000 and allowed to compete in regular confirmation classes in the Terrier Group. We quickly became enamored with the breed and after attending the Cesky Terrier Symposium in the Czech Republic in 2000 our compliment of Cesky Terriers started to grow.
2000
Ch. Anicka of the Porkwood Heath aka Anicka from The Netherlands bred by Tom & Gerry Merkx (Orest Ginoch’s Kvitko X Nevinna Ginoch’s Kvitko)
2002
Ch. Chalma’s Aveline, aka Avery (Ch. Alchemy Milenka’s Baron Chalma X Ch. Anicka of the Porkwood Heath)
2003
Ch. Cantabile Roma aka Roma from Finland bred by Mia Johnsson (Nelum Himalus Darude X Cantabile Oksana)
2004
Ch. Chalma’s Braumeister, aka Brewster (Ch. Alchemy Milenka’s Baron Chalma X Ch. Anicka of the Porkwood Heath)
2006
Ch. Canatabile Toivo aka Tovi from Finland bred by Mia Johnsson (Sotnosar’s Elmer X Cantabile Penelope)
2009
Milenka's Audacious Chalma, aka Stella from Vancouver bred by Karsten Keamling (Chalma's Eldrick X Ch. Milenka's Zita In Act Four) Stella is Avery & Tovi's granddaughter.
Since 2002 we have bred six litters. Given the relatively small gene pool of the breed our imports from Finland have provided us with bloodlines that both expand and compliment what we already have. We also co-own two of our own breeding, Chalma's Carita from the "C" litter and Ch. Chalma's Essential Alchemy from the "E" litter.
We have shown our Cesky Terriers since 2000. All except Stella are Canadian Champions and we have had many group placements. We now show selectively and look forward to puppies from our most recent litters being shown.
In 2007 we returned to the Czech Republic to attend the Cesky Symposium. It was good to renew some old acquaintances and view the state of the breed in its homeland. Needless to say, the breed is in good hands there.
In March 2009 we attended the famous Crufts dog show in Birmingham England to meet the Cesky Fanciers and their dogs and in August 2009 we visited Finland where we were able to see the parents and grandparents of Roma & Tovi our Finnish imports. We have made many friends while we have been involved with this lovely breed.
We had a winter litter in early 2010 which looks promising and we look forward to a continuation of our breeding program with our next litter planned for late 2010 or early 2011.
